A B O U T
Mars Wong is a seasoned game designer, developer, and creative technologist with a diverse background in creating games, apps, and experiences utilizing cutting-edge technology.
Hailing from New York City, Mars introduced Unity game development and virtual reality to esteemed institutions, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Mill, and Artix Entertainment. His systematic approach to game design starts with inspired ideation, followed by the rigorous development of gameplay loops that reinforce innovative core mechanics. Through crafting game design documents (GDDs), user stories, and detailed documentation, Mars ensures alignment with the intended experience, mitigating risks such as system bloat and feature creep.
From preproduction to post, Mars has developed professional capabilities that span the entirety of a given product’s life cycle. He has consolidated design elements into comprehensive prototyping for his emotive pitches and leveraged data-backed insights from QA & userbase alike to inform design decisions post-launch. His technical expertise allows him to tackle implementation head-on, profile performance metrics, manage repositories, and provide long-term support for both deliverables and live services alike.
With a full-stack skill set, Mars has demonstrated his capabilities in game design and innovative tech solutions for clients like Microsoft, Meta, and Epic Games, and in virtual reality filmmaking for Technicolor, New Reality, and Arizona State University. Now based in Los Angeles, Mars continues to evangelize bleeding-edge tech within and beyond the traditional gaming industry. His award-winning virtual reality films, industrial augmented reality applications, real-time rendering pipelines for Nissan and Hyundai, and commercially-commissioned Snapchat & Instagram filters for Netflix and HBO highlight his versatility.
Mars's work has been exhibited at prestigious venues including the United Nations Climate Action Summit, Sundance Film Festival, Venice Biennale, as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His ability to manage remote teams across varying regions and time zones at EG+ showcases his advocacy for both clients and creators alike. Conceptualizing and executing AR activations on-site for events and live performances for Technicolor and Magic Leap, as well as leveraging newfound generative AI for startups such as MaxRetail, demonstrate his adaptability and problem-solving acumen.
Mars's collaborative approach, combined with his expertise in end-to-end design, rapid research and implementation of practical solutions, scoping and budgeting, and highly effective communication, underscore his commitment to staying up-to-date and delivering exceptional results in the ever-evolving intersection of game design and emerging technology.
